The Basque Country has become a Mecca for foodies. It is true that food and wine play an incredible role in our culture, and this can be proved with the recognition that our chefs and wine producers have all over the world. Today I wanted to present 3 wines that you should not miss when you are in the Basque Country:
A Best Red Wines A list of wines of the Basque Country should start from the South of our area. Rioja wine production area is one of the most famous all over the world and, together with Priorat, is the only Qualified Denomination of Origin. The maximum quality award given by Spanish government to wine production areas. With my Rioja wine tours, you can visit here small traditional producers which only sell locally to world known wine brands with incredible architecture like Marques de Riscal, Lopez de Herdia, Muga or Ysios.
B. White Wines Near Bilbao and near the coast of San Sebastian, you can try this sometimes acidic, sometimes slighltly sparkling, but always refreshing. With my tours in the txakoli wine production area you can visit some of these special wineries close to Bilbao or San Sebastian, very useful for a great half day tour! Ask me for details for your private tour in the txakoli Basque wine county.
C. Roses. If a region of Spain is well known for its roses is Navarra. Here you can taste great reds and whites, but reds can be something to be tried. Of course, with my tours, you can also taste roses in Rioja or other places. Just let me know your preferences.
And D. Reds in the French Pyrenees. The North of the Basque Country is often not so well known in Spain, but there is a wine there not to be missed. The Irouléguy is something not to be missed if you are touring tour around Saint Jean Pied-de-Port or Espelette.
To enjoy all these places, it would be appropiate that you have a day per each, so that you can enjoy it fully and discover other experiences near those incredible wine areas.
