Sometimes, I feel overwhelmed to make the most of the time of my visitors in the Basque Country (they tipically stay here a few days only), and the need of showing them best of our region, showing our culture at the same time.
If you want to learn about the Basques and its culture, one of the oldest in Europe still alive nowadays, you have to think that only by seeing the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum and the modern city of Bilbao, you will leave a lot appart.
The same happens if you just see the running of the bulls in Pamplona in July (famous after Hemingway went to San Fermin), or if you go only to San Sebastian Film Festival in September.
If you want to know a bit more about us, these are some spots that have been selected by UNESCO:
A The Hanging Bridge of Biscay A true surprise for my guests. This is the oldest transporter bridge and it is still in use. You can find it in the exit of Bilbao port. Bilbao.
B. Prehistoric Caves of Altxerri, Ekain & Santimamiñe Right in the center of Bilbao, my guests love it as it is the best place to have something similar to what you expect to find in Starbucks: giant long coffees, iced coffees, cappuccino...
C. The Estuary of Urdaibai. Between San Sebastian and Bilbao, this was the first Biosphere Reserve in the world made by UNESCO in 1984.
D. Saint James Ways "Camino de Santiago" The North Way, the Interior Way and the French Way pass several villages and interesting countryside. Passing by all Basque provinces the so called, "European Main Street".
To enjoy all these places, it would be appropiate that you have a day per each, so that you can enjoy it fully and discover other experiences near those heritage sites.
For any details, or for a tailored tour for you here or in other places nearby, you can contact me. Ask me for details for your private tour in the Basque Country.
Para disfrutar estos sitios emblemáticos, al menos, disponga una día para cada uno de ellos, y convierta cada destino en una justificación para disfrutar una jornada de viaje en la que puede descubrir otras experiencias alrededor de estos Patrimonios.
