Vitoria-Gasteiz. The Napoleonic Market.

Regarding traditions and festivities in Basque region:

  • In Astigarraga. Season of the Basque Cider. The main area in the Basque Country is in Astigarraga (near San Sebastián). There are some 51 Basque cider houses in Guipúzcoa, 10 in Vizcaya and 2 in Alava. The cider season begins on January 12th and runs until the end of April.
  • In Ordizia. Agricultural Fair. Farm products fair. Every Wednesday.
  • In Hondarribia. Agricultural Fair. Sale of local products, Wednesdays at Damarri Plaza and Saturdays at the Port.
  • In Mungia. Peasant Market. Exhibition and sale of farm products. Every Friday.
  • In Bilbao. Gure Lurreko Merkatuak. Market of products of the hamlets of Bizkaia, made in a traditional way by their farmers, with Basque varieties and native breeds. Slow food, natural and local foods. Tinglados del Arenal. Every Saturday.
  • In Tolosa. Agricultural Fair. Farm products fair. Every Saturday.
  • In Irun. Agricultural Fair. Vegetable Fair. Every Saturday.
  • In Bilbao. Flower and plant market. Flowers and plants grown and collected directly by local producers. A melting pot of colors and smells. Tinglados del Arenal. Every Sunday.
  • In San Sebastián. Artisan market in La Brecha. Every Sunday and holidays from Easter.
  • In Vitoria-Gasteiz. The Napoleonic Market. It gathers, during a whole weekend, more than 140 stalls of gastronomy and local products. In addition there are activities, performances, theaters, parades, recreations and characters from the time of the French occupation for all audiences. Arriaga Park. From April 1st until 3th.
  • In Mutriku. XXV edition Verdel day. Popular tasting of greenfish. Cofradía de Pescadores de San Pedro. Exhibition of photographs and posters. Punta basket in the Miruaitz pediment. Artisans and Creators Fair, and gastronomic products. Sailing championship. April 2nd.
  • In Zegama. Beekeeper's day. Gipuzkoa Honey Contest. Exhibition of products made by the best Basque confectioners. April 3rd.
  • In Ortuella. Agricultural and livestock fair. XVI Exhibition and sale of farmhouse products. Exhibition of autochthonous and mixed breeds from the mining area. Campanian contest. April 3rd.
  • In Llodio. Friday of pain. Exhibition and sale of products. Sample of cattle, sheep, horses and goats. Stone dragging by oxen. April 8th.
  • In San Sebastian. Spring FairExhibition and sale of crafts. From April 8th to 17th.
  • In Elciego. Market of the flower and the orchard. IX Exhibition and sale of: plants, vegetables, preserves, ornamentation, machinery for garden and vegetable garden. April 9th.
  • In Aia. Txakoli Wine Day. 20 producers of the Getaria Denomination of Origin from Aia, Getaria and Zarautz villages, will show their products on April 10th.
  • In Garai. Plant and gardening fair. IX Fair of flowers, plants and gardening tools. April 10th.
  • In Bilbao. Basque Fest. Exhibitions of art, dance and street theater, children's entertainment, craft fairs, concerts, samples of Basque design and traditional sports exhibitions. From April 13th until 17th.
  • In Bilbao. Basque Fest Gourmet. Exhibition space of tourist regions of Euskadi with information about its destinations and its enogastronomic attractions, free express tastings, workshops and activities. From April 14th until 16th.
Via Crucis in Balmaseda
  • Easter is celebrated all over the Basque Country from April 14th until 18th this year, and these are the best places to see something different in your visit: Segura (Gipuzkoa) and Balmaseda (Biscay). These have famous living performance by locals representing the last days of Jesus Christ life from the 1600s.
  • In Bilbao. XI Spring Handicraft Fair. Exhibition and sale of crafts and agrofood. Paseo del Arenal. April 14th until 24th.
  • In Bayonne. Ham Fair. For Bayonne, the ham fair is a highlight, convivial, unmissable, the honor of a terroir and traditional craftsmanship. Quais of Nive. From April 15th until 17th.
  • In Tolosa. Karacol Saltsa. Snail tasting. April 16th.
  • In Ordizia. Shepherd’s Day. Exhibition and sale of rams. Tasting of lamb. Presentation of the new Idiazabal Cheese campaign. Artisan products from Goierri. April 20th.
  • In Amasa-Villabona. V Craft Beer Fair of the Basque Country. On-site beer tasting and production. April 23rd.
  • In Vitoria-Gasteiz. Feast of San Prudencio and Our Lady of Estíbaliz. Pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Armentia on April 28th, and Pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Estíbaliz on May 1st. From April 27th until May 1st.
  • Biarritz. Spring Market. Nearly 150 boutiques in Biarritz offer the largest brands at the best prices. Ready-to-wear, lingerie, shoes, fashion accessories, luggage, perfumes and beauty products, home decoration, table linen and home.... April 29th.
  • In Errenteria. XXXIV edition of Cider Day. Tasting of different ciders of the Basque Country. Demonstration of apple picking and old cider production. April 30th.
San Sebastian Dance Festival
Regarding arts and exhibits in Basque region:

  • In Bilbao. “Guernica” by Agustín Ibarrola. This new acquisition is an emblematic work of Basque art and of the painter’s production, and it was also one of the most significant episodes in the museum’s recent history. Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao. From October 18th until June 26th.
  • In Getaria. Balenciaga: the elegance of the hat. Exhibition resulting from a joint investigation of the collections of hats of the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum and the Museu del Disseny de Barcelona. Cristobal Balenciaga Museum. October 29th to May 8th, 2022.
  • In Vitoria-Gasteiz. A place to think. Schools and experimental educational art practices in the Basque Country, 1957-1979. Collaboration with the Jorge Oteiza Museum Foundation. Artium Museo – Contemporary Art Museum of the Basque Country. From January 21st to June 5th.
  • In Hernani. Thomas J Price. Reaching Out. Chillida-Leku Museum. From February 17th to May 30th.
  • In Hernani. Walk by a sculpture forest. Permanent exhibition of Chillida’s work. Chillida-Leku Museum. From February to December.
  • In Bilbao. 25th Anniversary of the Guggenheim Museum. Extensive program of exhibitions and music, dance, light shows, choirs and recitals. From February 7th to December 31st.
  • In Bilbao. Exhibition: “From Fauvism to Surrealism: 70 masterpieces from the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris (MAM)”. Bilbao Guggenheim Museum. From February 11th until May 22nd.

  • In Vitoria-Gasteiz. ICOFF Gasteiz: International Short Film Festival. The best short films in the world, winners of the most important competitions and awards: Oscar, Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Clermont-Ferrand, European Film Awards... State fiction, documentary or animation short films; and Section dedicated to short films from the Basque and Alava fields. From April 4th to 9th.

  • In Vitoria-Gasteiz. Malandain Ballet Biarritz: Symphony and Sirènes. Main Theater. April 9th.
