On 26th & 27th November 2015, the capital of the Basque Country, Vitoria-Gasteiz, will hold the summit “The Future of Sustainable Tourism +20”, on the 20th anniversary of the first agreement on sustainable tourism. Vitoria-Gasteiz has been working for long in sustainability of the city, its industries and the region, and this effort has been rewarded with the European Green Capital award in 2012 and the Spanish Gastronomy Capital 2014. The citizens of Vitoria-Gasteiz take part actively in this program of development, leaded by technicians, Green Pact Companies and the city hall itself.
Any visitor and citizen can enjoy the beauty of the parks in the city center and outskirts, the cleanliness of its streets, the efficient waste conveying system, the massive sustainable transport usage in the city (bicycles, cars, tramways, electric buses, etc.) amongst other services.
There are several sustainable options you can include in your visit to Vitoria-Gasteiz: you can enjoy pintxos (typical small Basque appetizers) made with ecological products, make a tailored tour to learn the way humans have learned from the nature to overcome several problems (biomimetic), discover the city by bike or running, buy macrobiotic products, enjoy a spa or a relaxing massage with natural products, walk along the green ring that borders the whole city, use an electric bike-taxi to see the old city center, see the deers in Salburua park, sleep in a small country house, have medical or beauty treatments in a specialized center of the city...
